A City for Cats. We were quite surprised by the amount of domestic cats that live in the city parks. We stayed in Miraflores a beautiful part of such a big city. (Click the photos to see the bigger version)
We got a taxi (‘unofficial’) and it cost us 50 Sol. = $19 AUD. It was a crazy ride with a lot of traffic merging in their own orchestrated way. It was very exciting even though we were dog tired. We then got to Casa Andina (a hotel chain in Peru) – Miraflores. The staff were absolutely fantastic. Spoke some English – and well – this was not to be the case for all future hotels we stayed in. The room was fantastic. We had a view of… well nothing really. Just a few apartment blocks and a construction site, but WE’RE IN PERU BABY!
We looked at the room service menu – everything seemed to be in a Spicy Peruvian way… sooo nah – just sleep, we can have an awesome breakfast tomorrow. BUT no we woke up at 10:30am – yikes we missed it (dammit and it was included in the package). Oh well, lets go get decaf and go for a walk.
Ordering coffee at Sama2Go was a different experience of the English/Spanish divide. I got my coffee from a self-professed ‘very good coffee maker’. We sat for about half an hour in the cafe just looking out at the street and watching the ‘flow’ of traffic. It was so surreal to be sitting on the other side of the world and of course for Phill to be looking at all the cars. (There was a stunning Mustang I must admit).
We walked down towards the parks and the shops and it was just beautiful. I couldn’t see very much cause the sun was glaring and our first task was to find some sunnies. Um… do people in Peru wear sunnies?? It took us half an hour to find a place that sold them – and it was a street vendor. 10 Sol = $3.80 AUD BARGIN!
Let’s eat… how’s some baby goat? ROFL it was a departure for Phill and was his last food departure this trip. A bit gamey.
We then visited another Starbucks – okay so you’ll need to be aware that Starbucks will become a given in this story. And did the Mirabus tour of Miraflores.
We saw the Ancient ruins in the middle of the city, the colourful houses and oh my god the architecture!! It was so cool to see it all from the top of a tour bus. Many many photos were taken… ***LINK TO GOOGLE+***
It was absolutely spectacular! Such a beautiful place with so much history.
Lima was a great place, we both loved it. So busy but everyone walks at a leisurely pace. So vibrant, but everyone was not fussed by anything around them. There were such beautiful houses and buildings coupled with some ‘not so nice’ places too. The Spanish style influence in the architecture was very obvious and was just so beautiful.
We went to Norkys for dinner. Holy cow!!! The menu was a million pages long. With EVERYTHING you could ever want for food. (except decaf – lol). The meal was absolutely excellent!
- Casa Andina Miraflores – 4 Star experience
- Mirabus – 3.5 Star experience
- Norky’s – 4.5 Star experience
- Catacombs – priceless
The next stop was Cusco.
